Internships Abroad in South Africa

The city was excellent as a new place to learn and grow. I loved meeting new people, sharing stories, and talking about our future plans. It was amazing to get to know the children at the primary school where I worked. I would strongly recommend the experience. I will never forget the one-on-one teaching with the children; I love teaching and inspiring the youth. I would recommend staying for a few months because there is so much to experience in the area, with its rich history. The staff and weekly activities were amazing. I loved hiking the mountains and trying new foods. Most of all, I am grateful for having such a loving and caring support system with Vacorps. Leave expectations behind. Be open, be helpful, and be respectful. Let the children ask questions and interact, because in doing so, we inspire them. I was able to fully connect with the children as well as the staff, and I feel like I have created a place of belonging and joined a community.

​ Prior to this experience, I had never even been to Africa. Now, after nearly three months in Cape Town, I can say it was an incredible journey filled with unforgettable moments. From hiking and surfing to late-night poker games with friends. The memories I made here will stay with me forever. My biggest advice to anyone considering this program is to come with a positive and open mindset. If you embrace the culture, the people, and the experiences, you will have an amazing time. Through my internship, I gained valuable insight into how Cape Town and South Africa work, and I loved getting to speak with locals every day. This experience gave me not only professional growth but also a deep connection to the city and its people.
