Study Abroad Programs in India

India is a world within itself, a country with a larger population (1.3 billion people) than any other single continent on earth outside of Asia. Sheltered by the great Himalayas to the north, the Indian subcontinent has a long and complex history that spans back to the earliest civilizations of humankind. Today a deeply spiritual country bent on overcoming the modern challenges of development and globalization, there is no better place to shake your worldview to its core than while you study abroad in India.

A Guide to Studying Abroad in India

Popular Providers

Frequently Asked Questions

Many international students aren’t aware of it, but India is actually a popular destination for studying abroad. The main reason is lower cost of education and daily living compared to other countries known for their study abroad programs.

Studying abroad in India is significantly more affordable than other countries. Tuition fees per academic year range from USD3,000 – USD7,000. Universities in India are allowed to set their own fees, so these vary from one school to another. International students can expect to spend around USD3,500 per year for living costs.

As an international student in India, make sure you bring the essentials: laptop and other electronic devices, IDs, wallet, any medication, and documents, such as the right visa. Check the climate of your host city to pack the right clothing. Don’t forget cash and cards as well. It helps to check out resources and create a packing list, so you won’t forget anything.

India boasts a global higher education sector, which means its universities and colleges are open to international students from around the world. Student visas allow multiple entries, making it easier from and to the country. Young people from Bhutan and Nepal can study in India without a visa, while those from Pakistan require security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs before getting their visa.

I just studied abroad with SAS in spring of 2025. To say this experience changed my life would be an understatement. I cannot recommend this enough. The learning opportunities are amazing, the staff and faculty do everything they can to make this your home away from home, and the traveling experiences are ONCE IN A LIFETIME!
